Every project starts with an idea. In academia the idea usually comes from a breakthrough technology or scientific insight. But understanding the complexities of the healthcare market is often a new and challenging process. We work with teams in the IDEA stage to introduce the fundamentals of advancing a life science venture:
- Critically evaluating your core value proposition by interviewing customers (physicians, patients, hospital administration, etc)
- Mapping the competitive landscape of products around your indication, including standards of care, failed products, and products in development
- Identifying large gaps associated with the project (e.g. regulatory, clinical or IP issues)
The goal of this stage is for the team to get a sense of whether or not the idea is worth pursuing further.
We encourage teams at this stage to equally take advantage of other resources at UZH aimed at supporting entrepreneurship, such as the courses at the BEI program or Innovation Grants.
